Better medicine for the world's poorest.

We help people to help themselves

We are a group of doctors and medically interested lay people who have made it their goal to provide people in emerging countries with access to medical care in the field of gastroenterology.

The Gastroenterology Foundation e.V. was founded in 1996 by Prof. Meinhard Classen. The Nepal Group within the GF was founded in 2009 by Prof. Joseph Phillip, Dr. Dirk Hagena and PD Matthias Breidert.

We focus on "helping people to help themselves" and only support projects with long-term development potential.

In addition to providing concrete assistance in setting up endoscopic departments, we invite colleagues from the new centers to Germany to provide them with further training. We also organize training courses on site and support the departments in purchasing new medical equipment and necessary consumables.
Our members travel to the project countries at their own expense and work 100% on a voluntary basis; our administrative costs are minimal.
